On the 15th August, Hull City will be officially renaming their North Stand at the KC Stadium, which will now be known as the “T.B.A” stand, in what appears to be a desperate last ditch effort to lure new players to the club.
Hull City Chairman Paul Duffen laid out the club’s initial plan at last Friday’s press conference;
“Well West Ham are unveiling the ‘Trevor Brooking’ Stand and Ipswich are having a ‘Bobby Robson’ Stand so I said to Phil ‘we’re one of the big boys now and we should name a stand after a legend too.’
However a club insider later spoke to us about the sheer “short sightedness” of the board in believing there was someone who would fit that bill; “For two days following the initial press conference, discussions amongst the top brass ended in the reluctant decision to consider naming it the Kevin Kilbane Stand”.
With this and the numerous reports that followed of an intoxicated Phil Brown, slurring his words and gesticulating wildly at the stand yelling “That could have been your name up there Zamora!” it would appear that the whole naming ceremony affair was far from thought out.
The club however have strongly denied these reports, “This coming season is our chance to truly cement our position in the Premier League” declared two bit chairman Duffen “and what bigger incentive does a present or even potential Hull City player need than to stake their place in history with their name spelt out in polypropylene seating? Frazier Campbell and Michael Owen will be pretty disappointed with their decisions now, that’s for sure”
“And Marc Antoine Fortune!”
“….yes, thanks Jeff, and Marc Antoine Fortune…”
Whether this tactic will pay dividends in these last weeks of the transfer window remains to be seen, however any realistic top quality signings for Hull City firmly remain T.B.A.
